Challenges
Operating environment
The store’s location within Charlestown Square and its proximity to other retailers, many of which traded until 9:00–10:00 pm nightly, required careful planning around noisy works and deliveries.
Reuse of existing joinery and fixtures
Existing joinery and fixtures were sourced from various Oscar Wylee locations and required careful dismantling, transportation, identification and reassembly, with modifications and making-good works required where necessary.
Transportation and logistics
All relocated joinery, fixtures and furniture needed to be collected from the client’s warehouse facility and delivered to site within a tightly coordinated programme.
Tight construction timeframe
The construction programme was critical to the client’s operations, with the project requiring the closure of existing stores and the timely reopening of the new Charlestown location.
Solutions
Operating environment
Multiple night shifts were scheduled for deliveries and noisy works to minimise disruption to neighbouring retailers and anchor tenants during their trading hours.
Reuse of existing joinery and fixtures
Multiple site visits were undertaken at existing Oscar Wylee stores to identify, photograph and number joinery and fixtures scheduled for relocation and reuse. This ensured each item could be accurately tracked and installed in its intended location.
Transportation and logistics
Detailed forward planning was implemented to allow sufficient time for the collection, transportation and delivery of all joinery, fixtures and furniture. Deliveries were carefully scheduled around site access restrictions and the shopping centre’s operational requirements.
Tight construction timeframe
Trades were closely coordinated throughout the construction period, with extended working hours and precise programming implemented where required. Clear and consistent communication between the project team, trades and client ensured that works remained on programme and the store was completed within the required timeframe.
